History of Domaine de la Thibaudière

Domaine de la Thibaudière 700-900
700-900

Notre-Dame de Coulombs Abbey was founded in the Eure Valley, becoming a spiritual and economic center. The surrounding land, including that of the future Thibaudière, began to be developed.

901-1125
901-1125

The abbey consolidated its hold on the Faverolles lands and transformed the Thibaudière farm into a seigniorial fiefdom. The estate was then administered directly by the abbey, and received its name in homage to Abbot Thibault.

1126-1400
1126-1400

The estate played a central role in the monastic economy, with the construction of barns, stables and warehouses, as well as improvements to irrigation systems. The village of Faverolles became a collection center for feudal taxes.

1401-1567
1401-1567

The estate experienced heavy losses from looting by English troops and mercenaries. Barns were set on fire, crops destroyed, and part of the land left fallow. Huguenot Troops Attack the Abbey of Coulombs and its Outbuildings. La Thibaudière is ransacked, its buildings damaged and its land temporarily abandoned.

1791-1979
1791-1979

With the nationalization of ecclesiastical property under the French Revolution, Thibaudière was sold as national property for 29,000 pounds to Gilles Bréant, marking the end of his religious role and his transition into private ownership. La Thibaudière lost part of its farmhouses, modifying its initial structure. It became the main farm in Faverolles, operated by the Galerne family.

1980-2003
1980-2003

The main house was renovated, including the restoration of the cathedral lounge and its large oak beam. The estate remains agricultural. Didier Munin acquired La Thibaudière and transformed it into a leisure residence: renovation of the south-east wings, creation of the Beaudeval room, the dormitory, the swimming pool and the rehabilitation of the large barn.

2018-2019
2018-2019

Acquired by the Domaines & Events group, La Thibaudière became a place for receptions and seminars. Numerous arrangements have been made (upgrading to ERP standards, rooms, outdoor bar, sauna area, terrace, landscaped parking). The estate officially opened to the public in June 2019.

2020-2025
2020-2025

The Domaine is continuing its development with the construction of rooms in the corridor, the addition of a bar, and the renovation of existing rooms. The Barn has been modernized with the installation of air conditioning. A space of comfortable tent lodges has also been designed to enrich the accommodation offer. The adventure continues!

Further information

The Domaine de la Thibaudière has its origins in medieval times, in connection with the Abbey of Coulombs, which developed its land to ensure its economic autonomy. Located between Chartres and Maintenon, the estate took advantage of the Eure river for agriculture and livestock.

As early as the 12th century, it became a seigniorial stronghold under the control of the abbey, playing a key role in the regional economy thanks to cereal crops, vineyards and livestock. During the Hundred Years' War, the estate suffered heavy damage, aggravated by the religious wars in the 16th century. After the Revolution, it was sold as national property and became private property.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the farm evolved, lost some of its buildings and remained a farm until 2003, when Didier Munin accentuated its residential character.
The estate opened to the public in 2019 under the direction of Geoffroy Perdon, former founder of Domaines & Events to organize weddings and private events.

Today, the Domaine de la Thibaudière has been taken over by the Domaines & Events group, which is reviving this historic site through ambitious event projects, and is undertaking renovation work: transformation of spaces into accommodations, modernization of infrastructures and addition of equipment such as an outdoor bar and a sauna, to host weddings, private events, seminars, and exceptional corporate events. This new orientation makes it possible to perpetuate the Domaine's heritage while integrating it into a modern and sustainable economic model.
